压缩到要命 [compressed like crazy]

you wanna know what compression is: just listen to adele's "21".

my friend who only collects USA pressing (considered audiophile pressing) has a copy and i listened and get a clue of what today's recording engineers want and do.

this CD is highly compressed, has flat dynamics, noisy and is rough sounding.

i don't think it is an isolated case: many of today's recordings are meant for the ipod and ipad generation hence the need for loudness war.

we just feel sad that the demand of quality recording is long gone.

btw, this duo below shows the world (8 million hits!) how to do a great cover version of adele's song

  1. Les, I have the LP. It is not compressed. Sounds good.

If you want good sound, play vinyl.

  4. Les,
If you are serious about sound,
you shd release yr albums in HIRez/vinyl.
    Otherwise MP3 will do.
You use super duper equipments/cables and world famous recording engineer but then compressed it in a 16 bit red book CD format.

if you could solve my distribution problem (how do i distribute to taiwan, china and the rest of the world without killing my distributors) then i would definitely consider releasing in high-res ;-)

Such is the sorry state of our music industry.
